Public smoking of marijuana is becoming a civil violation in Jamestown.
The town council unanimously passed an ordinance on Monday setting fines up to five-hundred dollars.
Rhode Island's new cannabis law allows for public smoking anywhere you can smoke tobacco, but the law also gives communities the power to regulate.
The town council of Warren took similar action in August.
