State Senator Calls For Mulligan On Providence Golf Course Decision

A Rhode Island state legislator is speaking out after an extension was approved for the current lease-holder to continue maintaining and operating Triggs Memorial Golf Course in Providence.

The city's Board of Parks Commissioners approved the deal with FCG Associates on Wednesday.

State Senator Frank Ciccone is upset by the move.

“This isn’t right and frankly, it stinks worse that the landfill. The only person who seems to be in favor of extending this contract for another 10 years is the mayor who will be out of office in a couple of months. No public comment was taken, the surrounding neighborhood is against it, the customers of Triggs are against it and it’s time we breathe new life into this long neglected community asset. Today’s farce of a vote will not be the end of this issue and I once again urge Mayor Elorza to do the right thing and allow the incoming mayor and council to decide what’s best for Triggs and the people of Providence. Ramming a sweetheart deal down our throats while he is on his way out the door is simply not in the best interests of the community and Triggs,” said Senator Ciccone..

Opponents of the renewal with FCG argued that Triggs has been a long-neglected public asset.
