Providence Man Sentenced For Ghost Gun, Drug Possession

A man from Providence has been sentenced to 8 years in state prison for trafficking in fentynal and possession of a ghost gun.

Tyrece McCants pleaded "no contest" to one count each of possession with the intent to distribute a kilogram of the drug as well as to the possession of a ghost gun.

McCants was arrested this past March at his home on Newmark Street where officials say he had 37 grams of fentanyl and lesser amounts of cocaine and marijuana.

“Here again we have the all too familiar scenario of a dangerous drug dealer armed with a Polymer80 ghost gun sourced from an out-of-state online ghost gun kit company. We have charged approximately 50 cases involving such guns over the past two years, and it should come as no surprise that that these ghost gun kits, obtained without the necessity of a background check, are sought by those seeking to make money by providing arms to criminals or criminals seeking to arm themselves,” said Attorney General Neronha.

The A-G says he is grateful of the efforts of state and local police departments each and every day.
