Rhode Island has been served a temporary restraining order over an eviction notice against a homeless encampment outside the State House.
The injunction was filed in Superior Court.
The attorney who filed it tells the news station he represents 40 people who have been living at the encampment. He says that the homeless are simply expressing their constitutional rights in protest against being homeless.
A hearing is scheduled for later today.
While the state is offering to relocate the individuals to an emergency shelter, some of the tent residents do not want to make that move.
The reasons given included past bad experiences at shelters or not wanting to be split up from loved ones.
