California Man Pleads Guilty To Gun Trafficking

A man accused of trafficking firearms in a rideshare vehicle and then jumping off a bridge in Rhode Island to escape police has pleaded guilty.

The Justice Department says James Darosa of Modesto, California entered the plea on the charge of being a felon in possession of 14 total firearms, and he will be sentenced in April.

East Providence police reported in February of last year, Darosa took a large suitcase into a Lyft car. The vehicle was stopped for a tinted window violation on the Washington Bridge. Darosa jumped off the bridge into the Providence River, and he was arrested on the shoreline.

According to court records, at the time of his arrest in February 2020, Darosa was serving a term of federal supervised release, having recently completed a term of incarceration of sixty months imposed in May 2016 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California on a conviction for distribution of methamphetamine.
