The chief justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court has issued an executive order directing judges in the state to implement procedures for expunging marijuana-related criminal charges.
The order lays out court procedures for expunging from people's records misdemeanor and felony possession charges as well as civil violations.
This stems from the law passed by Governor McKee last year which legalized recreational cannabis.
Requests can be submitted in person or via email at any county Superior and District Court clerk's office, as well as the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal.
Paul Suttell, the Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court says that all fees associated with the expungement shall be waived.
