The new Providence fire chief was sworn in on Monday.
Derek Silva, a 16-year veteran of the department, was promoted to take over a position that has been vacant since 2015.
Silva said yesterday he wants to move the Providence Fire Department into a new era through the use of technology.
He said his number one goal is to head the best run fire department in the country.
