Two men have been sentenced for a crash that caused serious injuries in Providence.
George Rodriguez of Providence and Jacob Gardner of Warwick were sentenced on state charges including driving to endanger for the crash on Broad Street in September 2020.
Rodriguez got one year in jail, while Gardner avoided jail time; both temporarily lost their licenses.
Authorities said the two were involved in a race, and a pickup truck driven by Gardner spilled landscaping equipment onto Natacha Legein, a Providence restaurant owner.
The Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronah says the General Assembly needs to consider enhanced sentencing for driving to endanger, resulting in injury.
