Settlement Reached With Rhode Island Eye Doctor

The United States Attorney's Office has reached an agreement to settle civil allegations against the former owner of a chain of Rhode Island eye care practices that bears his name.

Paul Kochwas accused of paying kickbacks to optometrists who referred patients to him and his practice for cataract surgeries.

The government alleged that the kickbacks resulted in the submission of false claims to Medicare under the federal False Claims Act.

The agreement will result in Koch paying over one-million dollars.
