Governor McKee has signed a new law which allows Rhode Island recreational marijuana dispensaries to advertise through the Office of Cannabis Regulation.
The newly-legalized businesses were told they had to wait for the Cannabis Control Commission to be seated before the ads could be placed on billboards.
In the meantime, those signs have been filled by out-of-state competition which did not have such restrictions.
Cannabis Commission chairwoman Kim Ahern says she is cognizant that the industry has been waiting for their work to begin.
Ahern is hoping to start giving out licenses for new dispensaries either late this year or early next.
