The state of Rhode Island is terminating its contract with Philadelphia-based Scout LTD, the company in charge of redeveloping the Cranston Street Armory in Providence.
The Armory has been mostly vacant since the Rhode Island National Guard departed the building in 1996.
Governor Dan McKee told reporters on Monday that Scout's proposal put too much risk on taxpayers.
Scout blew the whistle on alleged inappropriate behavior from former McKee administration member David Patten during a business trip to Philly earlier this year.
State Senator Sam Bell and Representative Enrique Sanchez, whose district includes the Armory neighborhood, are claiming that the canceled contract amounts to an act of retribution by McKee.
