Providence Mayor Brett Smiley has a simple "ask" for the Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee.
Transfer ownership of the Cranston Street Armory and a big check.
The Mayor is confirming that there are talks going on now and are likely to continue into the fall on the potential transfer.
There is a hangup.
The Mayor tells WPRI12 that he is not going to do any deal that puts taxpayers at a disadvantage. So the Mayor says that with the transfer of title- he needs a big state check to boot.
The potential new deal comes in the aftermath of the governor cancelling the contract with Scout LTD because it would be a financial strain on the state.
