The police will stop running Vehicle Identification Number inspections, which are required to register a car with an out-of-state title or registration, at the Providence Public Safety Complex.
This is happening at the end of August.
City officials cited the increased availability of VIN checks and a decline in demand at the West Fountain Street facility. The inspections can now be performed at licensed car dealerships.
The old Providence VIN check station on Ernest Street fell into disrepair and employees were vacated from the property back in 2019.
