City Council Has Issue With Elorza Tax Deal

The Providence City Council is targeting a deal made by the former mayor with prominent developer Arnold "Buff" Chace.

A motion has been filed in Superior Court to intervene in a 2021 consent agreement between Chace and the administration of Jorge Elorza, which involved ten downtown properties and affordable housing considerations.

The City Council is contending the agreement was illegal because it did not seek council approval.

There's been no comment from current Mayor Brett Smiley, nor from Chace.
