Major Fire Knocks Out Power, State Of Emergency Declared At Historic Hotel

Local officials say Block Island is in a state of emergency after a major fire broke out at a historic hotel overnight.

Officials say flames were detected at the Harborside Inn on Water Street late last night.

More than 50 firefighters battled the stubborn blaze.

The Block Island Ferry had to be used to transport emergency vehicles on site. Shortly before 2AM this morning. the Chamber of Commerce announced that the roof of the historic structure caved in. According to the Harborside website - no one was hurt.

Everyone was able to safely get out of the structure.

Reservations made this week through the 24th will be cancelled and patrons will receive a full refund.

The State of Emergency was necessary because of a lack of power on the Island. Officials say there is no cause determined yet.
