The Smithfield Rhode Island Little League team staved off elimination by beating Media, Pennsylvania in the World Series game in South Williamsport, PA Sunday.
Playing before more than 23 thousand Sunday afternoon, RI broke a 2 all tie late by scoring five runs in the sixth inning.
Smithfield scored seven runs on seven hits and played errorless baseball. Media had two runs on five hits, and they committed one error. Smithfield now has a couple of days off.
They won't play until Tuesday.
It will be there first night appearance at the World Series.
They will play at 7pm against a team yet to be determined. It will be either Texas or California.
