The Democratic primary for the Rhode Island 1st House District which featured nearly a dozen candidates has been won by Gabe Amo.
The Pawtucket resident worked in the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs under the Obama and Biden administrations.
If he is elected in the general election, Amo would become the first person of color to represent Rhode Island in Congress.
"It’s time for us to come together and ensure that we keep this seat in Democratic hands in November," Amo said in a statement.
The Republican winner of Tuesday's primary, which only had two candidates, was Gerry Leonard a U.S. Marine veteran from Jamestown.
