Rhode Island Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse reacted to the death of California Senator Dianne Feinstein by calling her a "trailblazer".
The former mayor of San Francisco was elected to the Senate in 1992.
Reed said Feinstein broke gender barriers and championed her state, the environment and public safety.
Whitehouse worked with Feinstein on the Senate Judiciary Committee. She was 90.
