Four inmates at the Adult Correctional Institutions are being charged with inciting a riot this summer.
The Providence Journal reports the inmates, who were not named by the Rhode Island State Police, were also charged with conspiracy and disorderly conduct for the August 25th incident.
Officials said there was a fight, and then a number of inmates refused to return from a secure outside yard, which caused the ACI's maximum-security unit to go into lockdown. One officer reportedly suffered minor injuries during the de-escalation.
The inmates facing charges have been arraigned in Providence District Court.
