State Seeks To Prevent Invasive Insect From Area

The state Department of Environmental Management says it hopes to keep an invasive insect from agricultural areas.

The Spotted Lanternfly has devastated fruit crops and trees in several US states, and warmer temperatures have contributed to its continued activity in Southern New England.

Residents are urged to kill the lanternfly on sight, and to prevent its spread by scraping off the grey-colored egg masses it leaves on trees.

Any sightings should also be documented and reported to the state.
