The city of Woonsocket has fired its Finance Director.
Cindy Johnston was terminated, effective Monday, according to Mayor Christopher Beauchamp.
The move follows the sudden resignation of the former mayor-Lisa Baldelli-Hunt resigned in the wake of a scandal involving a land deal Baldelli-Hunt made with a former business associate.
Baldelli-Hunt had purchased five acres of vacant land off Mendon Road with one-point-one million dollars in federal funds but did not go through the City Council.
The deal has since been reversed.
Beauchamp says Johnston did not follow the city charter, in which any transaction over 100 thousand dollars must go before the Council.
Christine Cumberland has been named to replace Johnston on an interim basis.
