Communications between Rhode Island's Attorney General and a Superior Court Judge have taken place before an upcoming hearing.
Last month, Judge Daniel Procaccini ordered AG Peter Neronha to appear before him, over a social media post Neronha made on his personal X account.
Neronha had commented about bench trials, in which a defendant goes before a single judge, instead of a jury.
Procaccini later filed a complaint with the Office of the Disciplinary Counsel, alleging Neronha's comments amounted to false statements and unethical conduct.
Neronha filed in response that the order violates his right to free speech.
The two have spoken and exchanged emails in recent days, but the hearing will still go forward.
