New Laws Begin January 1st In State

New laws will take effect in Rhode Island next year.

As of January 1st, the state's minimum wage will rise to 14 dollars-per-hour, followed by an increase to 15 dollars by 2025.

Rhode Island's ban on plastic bags will also go into effect.

Residents may vote in a primary election at age 17 if they are registered and will turn 18 by the time of the general election.

June 19th, also known as Juneteenth marks the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans and it will become a state holiday.
