Law enforcement figures show 28 homicides occurred in Rhode Island in 2023.
The number is ten more than the previous year-37 homicides were recorded in 2021, and 31 in 2020. Despite drops in the homicide rates in major cities such as Philadelphia, the problem remains around the availability of firearms.
Statistics show that 19 of the homicides involved a gun.
In addition, no suspect has been named in six of the cases.
