Educantion Commissioner Warns Of Budget Cuts And Layoffs

Rhode Island's schools are nearing a quote, "fiscal cliff," which will end in budget cuts and lost jobs.

Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green said on Wednesday that school districts will need to make tough decisions as COVID relief funds run out.

Meanwhile, leaders in the General Assembly have indicated they will end the policy of maintaining state education aid at pre-pandemic levels.

Enrollment in public schools has dropped 5-point-2 percent since before the pandemic, representing about seven thousand fewer students.
