Recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in Rhode Island can now get up to an additional 25-dollars for buying fruits and vegetables.
The state Department of Human Services has launched the "Eat Well, Be Well" pilot initiative that lets eligible SNAP recipients get 50-cents for every dollar of fruits and vegetables they buy at certain Stop & Shop and Walmart stores.
The state is funding the project with 115-million-dollars set aside in last year's budget.
