General Dynamics Electric Boat has announced it will hire more than five thousand people this year. Nineteen hundred of the new jobs will be sited at the Quonset Point shipyard, as Electric Boat continues its construction of the Columbia class of ballistic nuclear missile submarines.
The news follows nearly five thousand hires in 2023. President Kevin Graney says the builder is in the midst of an expansion that occurs only once in a generation.
The Columbia program, along with the Virginia class of attack subs accounts for 80 percent of Electric Boat's work.
