Cranston Citywide Councilman Robert Ferri officially announced his run for Mayor on Sunday.
Ferri will seek the Democratic nomination for the seat and is the first of his party to do so.
He will face either incumbent Mayor Ken Hopkins or state Representative Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung, who are competing for the Republican selection.
Primaries are set for September 10.
