Rhode Island has the fourth-highest rate of overdose deaths involving cocaine in 2022, according to figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Officials say the combination of cocaine and methamphetamines with fentanyl is driving a "fourth wave" of the opioid epidemic, and it is striking Black men at a much higher rate.
The figures followed the shift in drug use from a market driven by prescription opioids to illegal alternatives.
