Providence officials have decided to move a bike path along South Water Street, as efforts continue to ease traffic congestion due to the closure of the Washington Bridge.
Mayor Brett Smiley says it is on the city to help.
The current two-way protected bike path will become an extra lane for motor vehicle traffic.
Bicyclists will be shifted to the raised sidewalk.
This project is expected to cost about 750 thousand dollars.
Today, the City Council is expected to consider a resolution that opposes the removal of the bike lanes and the use of city funds for that purpose.
