Bills have been filed in the House and Senate to strengthen penalties for drunken, impaired and reckless driving offenses in Rhode Island.
Sponsors of the legislation note the increase in drunken driving arrests over the past several months, with many causing serious injuries and death.
Sponsors urge passage of the bills saying they are necessary to help protect the public by holding dangerous drunken drivers accountable.
