Providence youth from low-income households will be able to take free swimming lessons through grants from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
The DEM is offering 65-thousand-dollars in funding to organizations that can teach young people to swim.
The DEM is asking organizations to submit proposals to provide scholarships for students under the age of 18.
The goal of the Water Safety Grant Program is to save lives.
