Newport School Union Lacks Confidence In School Boss

Newport teachers are wearing black this week after voting no confidence last week in Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain.

The teacher's union said the symbolic black is to mourn the loss of respect for the superintendent based on recent administrative decisions.

Among areas of concern cited are the involuntary transfer of teachers and the issuance of displacements notices without prior union consultation.

Doctor Jermain has not commented. She has been the leader of the school system for the last ten years.
