Council President: Proud Of Council Investment In Education

The Providence City Council has passed a 599-million budget for fiscal 2025.

The budget does not increase the property tax rate, but it does eliminate the homestead exemption for residents living in their homes in favor of an owner-occupied property tax rate.

The Council says the budget prioritizes investments in housing, public safety, climate change, and it increases funding for Providence Public Schools.

Councilor Rachel Miller says she's proud that the budget supports students and teachers with a five-point-five-million-dollar increase in funding.

She says it exemplifies investment in the well-being of Providence residents and its young people.
