A 60-year-old man who claimed to have a gun is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at Rhode Island Hospital following a standoff with police in North Providence.
Officers were called to a house on Charles Street late yesterday afternoon where the man threatening violence was inside with his 92-year-old mother.
Police finally gained entry to the house around 1:30 this morning and the suspect was subdued after a brief struggle.
A police spokesperson said the man has been hostile and confrontational with officers in the past.
