Standoff Over Peacefully In North Providence

A standoff between a man in his sixties and North Providence Police has ended peacefully.

Police say they were called to a Charles Street address yesterday because a mental health worker was worried about the man inside of the home.

When police arrived, they knocked on the door and the man threatened them with a gun.

The man, who police are not identifying, told police he had his 92 year old mother from Greece inside.

Police backed away- and it wasn't until about 2 this morning that police were able to talk the man out.

He is undergoing a mental health exam.

Police are promising more details later this morning.
