Fired Providence City Council Member Files Federal Complaint

A Providence City Council member who was fired last year for pro-Palestinian social media posts is filing a federal complaint seeking monetary damages and reinstatement.

Miguel Sanchez claims Governor Dan McKee and two staff members violated his right to free speech.

Sanchez had posted a message on X accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians and he took part in a ceasefire demonstration.

According to the complaint, Sanchez claims he was told it was inappropriate to publicly state an opinion that appeared to contradict the governor.

So far there has been no comment from Governor McKee yet.
