The long-awaited demolition of the westbound side of the Washington Bridge is underway.
It began Sunday night and will continue nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sundays to Thursdays, weather permitting.
The first phase of demolition is the bridge parapets and road deck.
Meantime, Governor McKee has announced a new program that will offer grants to businesses adversely effected by the bridge closing. That program funded by federal dollars which will be administered by the state.
Later this month steel beams will be removed.
Expect delays for the duration.
