Karen Read's defense team is pushing to have two of the criminal charges in her murder case dismissed.
A 77-page brief was filed today with the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court arguing a second trial would be unconstitutional double jeopardy.
The 44-year-old Mansfield women's first trial ended with a hung jury and several jurors subsequently said they were prepared to acquit her of second-degree murder and other charges.
Read is accused of hitting her boyfriend,
Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, with her SUV outside a house in Canton in 2022, and leaving him to die in a snow storm .
