U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland held a closed-door meeting with Rhode Island's local, state and federal leaders on Wednesday.
Before the meeting went private, Garland addressed reporters saying the meeting was being held to highlight the ongoing work to curb violence across the country.
He said that high profile cases that the Rhode Island Office has addressed has been instrumental in keeping the entire region safe.
Rhode Island U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha was among those attending the meeting along with police chiefs from Providence, Cranston, Woonsocket, and Central Falls.
There were also representatives from Rhode Island State Police, the FBI, Homeland Security on hand.
