A Providence man held police at bay for hours during a standoff on Wednesday.
Police say the 61-year-old is accused of holding his fiancé hostage inside a home on Douglas Avenue and threatening officers who responded to the scene for a well being check.
Police negotiated with the suspect for several hours before he let his fiancé leave and he was taken into custody.
The man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for an evaluation. It's unclear if charges will be filed.
