The Providence Mayor Brett Smiley says that the results of the Tuesday election were not want he wanted, nor are they what he expected. But he says the city is strong and they will continue doing what they do to protect the rights of all residents.
"To our neighbors that are worried about their families, friends and fellow community members, know that as your Mayor, I will continue to protect all members of our community, our environment and our liberties. It has never been more clear that the work of local government is now more important than ever before. While this is not the outcome that I was hoping for, this result further underscores the opportunity for cities like Providence to lead on systemic challenges that are impacting communities across the nation like housing, economic security and education," The Mayor said.
Smiley said regardless of what happens at the national level, "I will continue to protect and uplift the policies and initiatives that have helped make Providence the inclusive and welcoming city it is known to be."
