The elevated fire risk continues across Rhode Island. Dry weather is expected for most of the week, but rain is likely on Thursday and possibly Friday. Fire Departments statewide are reminding residents that they should not be doing any outdoor burning and smoking materials should be carefully discarded.
Meantime, one person was treated for smoke inhalation near the scene of a brush fire in North Kingstown on Sunday. The fire broke out at around 10:00 a.m., affecting the Travel Inn motel off of Old Post Road and firefighters were able to put out the blaze in just under an hour. Officials believe the fire started in the brush and leaves surrounding the building, but the exact cause is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal and North Kingstown Fire Department.
