URI Staffer Dies After Last Week's Pedestrian Crash

The University of Rhode Island says longtime staffer Maureen McDermott has died after a she was struck by a car on November 6.

McDermott was employed at the university for 43 years and worked with student organizations on campus.

The university says McDermott was an important part of the school community, serving as a compassionate advisor to students and she was an advocate for more than 100 campus organizations.

URI says resources will be available to help the campus community cope with McDermott's death.

The student who was involved in the crash has been fully cooperative and is receiving support services from the university.
