Rhode Island Attorney General Neronha and eleven other attorneys general have released a statement on DOGE access to sensitive personal information.
Their comments come after the U.S. Department of the Treasury granted Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency access to payment systems containing Americans' personally identifiable information.
Neronha and his colleagues say the President does not have the power to give away private information to anyone he chooses, and he cannot cut federal payments approved by Congress.
They add that the level of access for unauthorized individuals is unlawful, unprecedented, and unacceptable and DOGE has no authority to access the information, which they are seeking in order to block critical payments that millions of Americans rely on including health care, childcare, and other essential programs.
