Rhode Island AG Reaffirms LGBTQ+ Support Following SCOTUS Decision

Rhode Island's Attorney General reaffirms support for the LGBTQ+ community after the Supreme Court upheld a Tennessee law restricting gender transition care for minors.

Peter Neronha says while the Supreme Court decision represents a significant setback to LGBTQ+ rights, it has no impact on gender affirming care in Rhode Island.

I want to speak directly to the LGBTQ+ community in this moment and reiterate that I will always fight for your right to live as your true, authentic selves. While today’s Supreme Court decision represents a significant setback to LGBTQ+ rights, this decision has no impact on gender affirming care in Rhode Island. I firmly believe that decisions about how, when, and whether minors should access gender affirming care are decisions that belong to families and their providers.

“My Office, along with Democratic attorneys general across the country, will continue to fight against the Trump Administration’s ruthless attempts to demonize LGBTQ+ Americans, and anyone else they deem as ‘other,’ for political gain. We are fighting on behalf of you, and all Americans, in the courts, and we are winning because we are on the right side of the law."

Neronha believes decisions about how, when, and whether minors should access gender affirming care belong to families and their providers.
