RIDEM Charlestown Breachway Repair Project To Begin Mid-Month

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management will start a long-term repair project of the Charlestown Breachway by the middle of the month.

The 8-point-4-million-dollar project will restore the breachway's structural integrity and improve safe navigation.

RIDEM says it will also stabilize the coastline, preserve water flow to maintain ecological balance and preserve water quality.

The construction is expected to be completed by April 2026 with vegetation restoration to be finished by fall of 2026.
