ICE agents were involved in a traffic crash that knocked down a utility pole in Providence on Tuesday afternoon.
The two-vehicle accident happened shortly before 1 p.m. at Raymond Street and Chalkstone Avenue.
The ICE SUV was reportedly struck by a civilian vehicle as it entered the intersection.
There were no injuries and at this point, no arrests or summons have been issued.
A spokesperson for Mayor Smiley's office released a statement saying the mayor is aware of the incident involving ICE agents and he understands these are anxious times for many in the community.
The statement goes on to say the city reaffirms that Providence Police officers do not participate in immigration enforcement and will never ask about an individual's documentation.
