RI Insurer to Receive Tax Breaks in Exchange for Hiring More Workers

State insurance officials have agreed to give Providence-based Motor Club Insurance six-point-eight million dollars in tax incentives -- in exchange for the insurer expanding its operations in the state. Under the agreement,

Motor Club Insurance must also hire at least 370 full-time workers. It also plans to open a new claims processing center somewhere in Rhode Island.

Half of the new employees would work at the new claims center, which will be built at a site that is yet to be determined.

The hiring plans would boost Rhode Island's GDP by more than 109-million dollars.
