Three Nigerian Nationals Charged In Online Romance, Wire Fraud Conspiracy

Three Nigerian nationals have been charged in Rhode Island federal court for their roles in an alleged online romance scheme.

William Elvis, Moses Hezekiah and Destiny Oghentega are each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Federal prosecutors allege that beginning in early 2021 the defendants engaged in a scheme to defraud individuals through online impersonation and romance-based scams.

The conspirators are accused of contacting the victims and making repeated requests for money claiming they needed the funds due to financial hardship, legal issues, or medical emergencies.

Victims sent substantial sums of money over the course of the scheme.
